Closing the Gaps Before the Crisis: Cognishine on the Dose of Optimism Podcast
What would it mean to catch a problem earlier - whether it's a child missing therapy between sessions, a student whose needs go unidentified, or a clinician stretched too thin to reach everyone who needs care?
It's a question we think about every day at Cognishine, so we were thrilled when our very own Chief Commercial Officer, George Frey, was invited to explore it on a recent episode of the Dose of Optimism podcast from KidsX, hosted by Omkar Kulkarni, MPH, of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. George was joined by our longtime partner Arie Melamed of ALYN Hospital, and together they shared the story of how Cognishine is helping close the gaps that appear before the crisis - and how digital therapy platforms are making earlier, more consistent intervention possible.
One Platform, More Than 5,000 Therapists, 10+ Countries
We're proud that the Cognishine digital intervention platform is now used by more than 5,000 therapists across 10 countries. As George and Arie described on the episode, our platform gives occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and psychologists the tools to deliver — and extend - therapy across every setting where care happens:
- Synchronous sessions – engaging, evidence-based activities delivered in real time, in person or online.
- Asynchronous self-practice – meaningful therapeutic practice that continues between sessions, so progress doesn't pause when the appointment ends.
- Teletherapy – consistent, high-quality intervention for clients wherever they are.
By supporting all three modes of care in one place, we help clinicians catch missed practice, monitor engagement, and keep clients moving toward their goals between visits - exactly the kind of early, continuous support the episode explores.
AI That Supports Therapists, Not Replaces Them
A recurring theme of the conversation was the responsible role of AI in therapy - something we care deeply about. George and Arie shared how AI is beginning to personalize the Cognishine platform in ways that support therapists rather than replace them: helping tailor activities to individual client needs while keeping clinical judgment, empathy, and the therapeutic relationship firmly at the center of care.
This philosophy runs through everything we build. Technology should give clinicians more time and better tools - never substitute for their expertise.
A Shared Mission: Catching Problems Earlier
We were in great company on this episode. It also featured Kenzie Butera Davis, CEO and Founder of Maro, on closing the gap between a child's first mental health symptoms and their first treatment, and Dr. Rohit Kohli of Children's Hospital Los Angeles on mentorship and building the next generation of clinician-researchers.
Together, the conversations paint a hopeful picture — one we share: when innovators, hospitals, and clinicians work together, the gaps that appear before the crisis - missed sessions, unidentified needs, unsupported potential l- can be closed.
