Patient's motivation to participate

At Gaya Occupational Therapy, managing all aspects of care can be challenging. Finding and preparing the right intervention materials takes time, and following up on self-practice between sessions adds to the workload. Keeping patients motivated and engaged—especially outside the clinic—requires ongoing effort and thoughtful planning to ensure meaningful progress.

Cognishine has made a real difference to my day-to-day work. It saves me time when planning, and I can easily find activities that suit each client. Sessions feel more streamlined, and having resources for clients to use between sessions has been really helpful. It’s become a very useful part of my toolkit

The Solution

Using the Cognishine app, the patient can receive personalized, engaging, and interactive exercises that directly address their challenges in attention, memory, time concept, daily task management, praxia, and sequencing activities. With consistent use and tailored goals, the app can help the patient make significant progress in each of these areas, enhancing their independence and overall quality of life.

Patient Story

7 years old female

Tuberous Sclerosis: delayed development, learning difficulties, epilepsy, autism, hyperactive tendencies.

This case study focuses on a patient who presented with challenges in several key areas, including attention, memory, time management, daily tasks, praxia (motor planning), and sequencing activities.

Challenges Encountered:
1. Attention and Memory Work: The patient initially struggled with maintaining focus during tasks and remembering information over short periods. This affected their ability to engage fully in therapy and daily activities.
2. Learning Hours and Time Concept: Understanding and managing time was a significant challenge. The patient had difficulty grasping the concept of time, such as reading clocks and differentiating between morning, afternoon, and evening activities.
3. Daily Tasks and Weekly Planning: Completing daily tasks in a structured and organized manner was difficult.
4. Praxia Work: The patient exhibited challenges with praxia, which affected their ability to plan and perform coordinated motor tasks, making activities such as dressing, using utensils, or engaging in schoolwork more difficult.
5. Sequencing Activities: The patient had difficulty understanding and following a sequence of steps in activities, making tasks such as following instructions or completing multi-step activities challenging.

Results

1. Improved Attention and Memory: Through targeted Cognishine exercises focusing on attention and memory, the patient showed progress in concentrating for longer periods and remembering key information.
2. Time Concept and Learning Hours: With consistent practice and the use of visual aids (e.g., timers, clocks), the patient made significant strides in understanding time.
3. Enhanced Daily Task Management: The patient began to show improvement in performing daily tasks with more consistency using cognishine sequencing and planning activities.
4. Sequencing and Activity Planning: The patient made noticeable progress in sequencing tasks.

What I really appreciate about Cognishine is how easy it is to tailor activities to each client’s specific cognitive and functional needs. Whether we’re working on attention, memory, or something more complex like sequencing or time concepts, the platform offers engaging, interactive tasks that really connect with them. Over time, I’ve seen clients grow in confidence and independence—not just in sessions, but in their everyday lives.
